Connecting to LEGO® Education SPIKETM

If you have problems in connecting Mind Render and LEGO® Education SPIKETM, try the following.

Q: I got an error “TypeError: can’t convert 〜” in the console and they don’t work properly.

SPIKETM may not be working properly; restart SPIKETM and try again.

Q: SPIKETM Hub OS is already updated, but it asks me to update the OS.

SPIKETM may not be working properly; restart SPIKETM and try again.

Q: The power button on the SPIKETM hub does not respond when I press it.

Disconnect the USB cable, remove the battery from the SPIKETM hub, and reattach it and it will boot up again.

Q: The SPIKETM device name in Mind Render does not change.

Switching between “SPIKE with Block” and “SPIKE with Python” programs may not immediately change the SPIKETM name on Mind Render. If this is the case, please wait a moment before searching for the device.
The name may also appear as “SPIKE,” but there is no problem with the operation.

Bluetooth connection on Android and Chromebook

Q: Android or Chromebook cannot find micro:bit or LEGO® Education SPIKE™.

If your device cannot detect micro:bit or SPIKE™ when trying to connect via Bluetooth with Mind Render, make sure that Location Services are turned on.

Typing on Chromebook

On some Chromebooks, you may not be able to type using the built-in physical keyboard when using Mind Render. If this happens, turn on the On-screen keyboard by following the steps below. After the on-screen keyboard appears, you will be able to type using the physical keyboard.

Steps to enable the On-screen keyboard:

  1. Click the clock in the bottom-right corner of the screen and open Settings.
  2. Click the menu icon in the top-left corner and select Accessibility.
  3. Click Keyboard and text input.
  4. Turn on On-screen keyboard.
